Michelle Young, a Ph.D. student in Environmental Engineering, presented at the fifth annual School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment's Graduate Student Research Symposium last Thursday. Dr. Bruce Rittmann recently presented "Intimately coupled photocatalysis and biodegradation (ICPB) for detoxification of recalcitrant organics" on January 12 at the 3rd Water Research Conference in Shenzhen, China. Find our more about the conference here.
Dr. Yen-jung Lai will be presenting "Superior FAME Recovery from Scenedesmus sp. through Pulsed Electric Field Pre-Treatment" on Tuesday, September 30, at the Algae Biomass Summit in San Diego. Dr. Lai will be discussing how pretreatment can improve FAME recovery from algae.
Alex Zevin was awarded a travel scholarship to present a poster at the 8th annual Algae Biomass Summit in San Diego on September 29-October 2. His poster focuses on microbial community interactions between heterotrophic bacteria in Synechocystis communties.
Dr. Bruce Rittmann will be attending 11th IWA Leading Edge Conference on Water and Wastewater Technologies in Abu Dhabi on May 26-30, 2014. Not only is Dr. Rittmann a program committee core group member, he will be chairing the session on biofilm processes and presenting "Chemical, Microbiological, and Physical Structures of H2-Based Biofilms" on May 29.
Dr. Sudeep Popat will be presenting at The Electrochemical Society's (ECS) 225th Meeting in Orlando, FL. Dr. Popat will be presenting "Electrochemical Characterization Reveals Multiple Distinct Electron Transport Pathways in Anode Biofilms of Geobacter Sulfurreducens." Dr. Popat's contributing authors include Rachel Yoho, Dr. Cesar Torres and alumni Oluyomi Ajulo.
Dr. Prathap Parameswaran will be presenting "Characterization of the simultaneous fermentation and anode respiration capabilities of the thermophilic Thermoanaerobacter pseudethanolicus in a Microbial Electrolysis Cell (MEC)" at the North American meeting of the International Society for Microbial Electrochemistry and Technology (NA-ISMET). This is part of Dr. Parameswaran's ongoing work exploring new anode-respiring bacteria. NA-ISMET is being held May 13-15 at Penn State University.
